Drama In a German farming community on the eve of World War I, the new schoolteacher is shocked to learn of an attempt on the life of the local doctor and the subsequent death, perhaps murder, of the Baron's son. As the teacher begins to ask questions about this spate of violence, he senses something very wrong indeed in the picture postcard village. Meanwhile, 17-year-old parishioner Eva catches the teacher's eye and the pair begin a tentative romance.
