Comedy Alienated Australian girl Mary Dinkle has a kleptomaniac mother but no real friends to call her own. By an unlikely turn of events, Mary becomes a pen pal to New York recluse and malcontent Max Horowitz. Even though they live on opposite sides of the world, are generations apart and have seemingly nothing in common, the two lost souls find hope and even glimmers of happiness in each other's correspondence.
