Sixteen-year-old Beatrice Prior lives in the futuristic Chicago faction of Abnegation with her brother Caleb and parents Andrew and Natalie. On the day of an aptitude test that should decide her destiny, Beatrice discovers she is a Divergent and must hide this fact from everyone she loves. When the time comes to choose her destiny, Beatrice opts for the Dauntless faction and she begins her training under instructor Tobias Eaton.
