The Ice King

The Ice King

Documentary Award-winning director James Erskine's documentary reappraises one of figure skating's groundbreaking figures, who refused to play by the rules. The film pays affectionate tribute to the enduring legacy of Birmingham-born athlete John Curry, who became the first openly gay Olympian in 1976, a few years after the decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK. Previously unseen footage of Curry's balletic performances are juxtaposed with his letters and archive interviews.
