Drama Ex-Marine turned cab driver Travis Bickle lives on the fringes of society, painfully ill equipped to communicate with the outside world. When a fledgling romance with political campaigner Betsy, who works for presidential candidate Senator Palantine, withers and dies, Travis becomes fixated with 12-year-old prostitute Iris. He resolves to save the child from her horrific current situation, which also includes assassinating Palantine. Reality and fantasy wrestle for control of Travis's mind as the cab driver descends head first into oblivion.
