Paduan lady Baptista Minola protects the virtue of her youngest son, Bianco, by decreeing that the young man cannot be married until his notoriously wilful and assertive older brother Katherine is wed. Bianco's would-be suitors plot to find a woman brave enough to woo Katherine.
