Stones Have Laws

Stones Have Laws

Documentary A documentary portrait of the Maroon community in the former Dutch colony of Suriname. In reenacted scenes, village elders and younger men and women talk about the history of their people, their devotion to ancestors and forest spirits, and the strict laws of trees and boulders. Through the eyes of these people, we glimpse the spirits of the natural world and the devastating impact of multinationals, which plunder the land for valuable minerals.
