Musical Countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo plays the revolutionary pharaoh, who transformed ancient Egypt, in director Phelim McDermott's visually sumptuous staging of Philip Glass's opera, which was recorded live on the stage of the Lincoln Centre For The Performing Arts in New York under the baton of conductor Karen Kamensek. Following the death of Amenhotep III, his son Akhnaten accepts the crown and embarks on a radical programme of change.
