Jewish novelist Jamie Wellerstein and struggling actress Cathy Hiatt recall the trajectory of their romance. He recounts his version of events in song from the first moment they meet until the relationship breaks down while she offers her perspective in reverse chronological order, meeting Jamie halfway for their only duet, the marriage song "The Next Ten Minutes".
