Comedy Officer Jon Baker joins the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in a desperate attempt to repair his marriage to his wife Karen. He is partnered on the streets by hard-nosed Officer Frank Poncherello, an undercover FBI agent, who is determined to solve a multimillion dollar heist that he believes to be the work of a gang led by dirty cop Vic Brown. To the chagrin of Poncherello's long-suffering boss Peterson, Jon and Frank struggle to work together and they leave a trail of destruction in their wake.
