Comedy Billi Wang is in New York, pursuing her dream of being a writer, when she receives devastating news from her parents Haiyan and Jian. Her beloved grandmother Nai Nai in China has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. In keeping with tradition, the family has withheld the results from Nai Nai, who is blissfully unaware that she only has a few months to live. Billi's parents ask her to remain in New York while the rest of the clan gathers to say farewell but the granddaughter flatly disobeys.
