Drama Young shepherd Jo Lalande lives in the village of Lescun as the spectre of German occupation looms large over France. With his father away at war, Jo takes on the role of man of the house. During a walk, Jo meets a secretive local man called Benjamin, whose daughter Anya is missing. The boy learns that Benjamin and his widowed mother-in-law Horcada are hiding young Jewish refugees in the family's barn on the outskirts of town and smuggling the children over the Spanish border.
